Hakverdi shows his favourite places on the Elbe Islands

Forthcoming event – ‘IBA Discovery Tour: My Elbe Islands’

Here it is again – the start of another season of tours where visitors to the IBA can avail themselves of a wide range of opportunities with a view to getting to know the IBA Hamburg Project Area. First up is the popular ‘IBA Discovery Tour: My Elbe Islands’. On Sunday, 25 March 2012 there are still places available on the first tandem tour of the year. Accompanied by Metin Hakverdi, an SPD politician and member of the Hamburg city parliament, IBA Managing Director Uli Hellweg will be showing visitors around the Elbe Islands, where they will be able to observe a number of IBA projects. The special attraction will be the input from Mr Hakverdi, himself born in Wilhelmsburg. On this cycling tour he will reveal his own very special places, and give participants a personal view of his home territory. There will be a break with coffee and cakes, to which all are invited.

Metin Hakverdi is a member of the Hamburg city parliament, and deputy chairman of the SPD for the Wilhelmsburg-West district. He grew up in Wilhelmsburg, and went to the secondary school in Kirchdorf. Alongside his political activities, he is a member of the Honigfabrikverein [Honey Factory Society] and the Verein Zukunft Elbinsel [Society for the Future of the Elbe Islands]. He is also involved with the Förderverein Bürgerhaus Wilhelmsburg [Friends of the Wilhelmsburg Community Centre]. With its ‘IBA Discovery Tour: My Elbe Islands’, IBA Hamburg hopes not just to popularise its own projects but also to provide an occasion for quite personal glimpses of the beauties and special attractions of the island district.
