HOCHTIEF Solutions formart celebrates topping out ceremony for the WaterHouses IBA Hamburg

The five residential buildings in a water basin are part of the international building exhibition, IBA Hamburg.

Hamburg, 14.08.2012 – HOCHTIEF Solutions formart is today celebrating the 'topping-out' ceremony for the WaterHouses in Hamburg. Five residential  buildings are being built on posts in a water basin with a surface area of approx. 4000 m². All 34 homes, which range in size between 55 and 130 m², were sold before the building work commenced in June 2011. The site in Wilhelmsburg, between the harbour and Süderelbe, is part of the international  building exhibition IBA Hamburg, and is scheduled for completion at the beginning of 2013.

Four buildings in the project are "triplex" homes: three-storey detached properties with separate access and their own water terraces. The nine storeys of the "WaterTower" will contain 22 privately owned apartments. The entrance level will also include a landing stage. The WaterHouses will be built to passive house specifications. Heat will come from renewable energy sources such as natural groundwater heat and the sun, and district heating added as and when required. A geothermal heat pump system will be installed, and solar thermal energy elements incorporated in the facades. The fresh air and energy supplies will be regulated automatically. The WaterHouses have been pre-certified with gold from the DHNB e.V., the German Association for Sustainable Building.
