The Management Board

Until End of March 2015 Uli Hellweg was the managing director of IBA GmbH. As managing director of the state-owned Wasserstadt GmbH in Berlin, the architect and city planner was responsible in terms of urban development for the conversion of 253 hectares of former industry and harbour premises on the banks of the Spree and Havel rivers. In Berlin, Hellweg also had his first experiences with IBA.

During the International Building Exhibition 1984/87, he was responsible for accompanying pilot projects for the renovation of older buildings and was in charge of the urban redevelopment of Berlin Moabit. From 1992 to 1996 Uli Hellweg worked as planning director in Cassel and, among others, initiated the reestablishment of the Kalle Unterneustadt, which won many prizes. Hellweg has gained a lot of international experience and developed an international network. From 2001 to 2005 he was commissioned by the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg and the ARBED/ARCELOR Group to build the Luxembourgian-French development body agora s.a.r.l., which is responsible for the redevelopment of 600 hectares of former industry premises. Under his direction 130 hectares of steel industry premises were transformed into locations for the first Luxembourgian University as well as for housing and offices in Esch-sur-Alzette near Luxemburg.

Hellweg was involved in a different large-scale project in Hamburg as early as 1998: he was chairman of the jury of a competition of realisation concepts for the development of the HafenCity at the time.

Heiner Baumgarten is Hellweg's partner on the management board of IBA Hamburg. He is chairman of the management board of igs 2013 internationale gartenschau Hamburg 2013 GmbH [international garden exhibition Hamburg 2013].

The management board was completed by Christoph Reuß, financial director.
