Entrance Complex to the Island Park

A complex is taking shape with the new buildings being constructed at the main entrance to Wilhelmsburg’s Island Park, and featuring architecturally sophisticated designs aimed at different uses. Alongside innovative residential buildings and events venues, a Medical Centre and Senior Citizens' Centre augment the attractive offer and help to consolidate the new Wilhelmsburg Central district.

The entrance complex is an important focal point for Wilhelmsburg Central. Starting from Wilhelmsburg Urban Railway Station, the complex determines the first impression of the emerged quarter. The buildings are located along Kurt-Emmerich-Platz, a wide promenade lined with trees and little parks, making it an attractive place for a stroll.

In the first, northernmost part of the entrance complex, made particularly prominent by its height and shimmering green façade, is the nine-storey Medical Centre. The InselAkademie Building immediately adjoins the Medical Centre so that they form one unit. Although the InselAkademie is connected to the Medical Centre and is a much lower building, with only four floors, it is immediately recognisable as a separate entity, as it has a distinctive monopitch roof and is set at a slight angle. To the east is the Senior Citizen’s Centre with a winter roof garden, followed by the residential buildings Wood 5 ¼, and the exhibition venue and hotel WÄLDERHAUS, with its larch wood façade, which rounds off the southernmost end of the entrance complex.

Another building that will enhance sports facilities on the Elbe islands in the future is the Island Park Hall, situated to the south of the WÄLDERHAUS. This brings a new swimming pool and a high-quality sports hall together under one roof at its best parking area.
