Subregion Kirchdorf

In Kirchdorf, children, young people and adults are to have the possibility of creating products and services and to learn whilst doing so, e.g. in kitchens, workshops and in a new media centre.

MEDIA DOCK

The MEDIA DOCK was opened in September 2011 on Neuenfelder Strasse across from the Nelson Mandela School. Music, photos, brochures, films and theatre can be produced here by children, youths and adults themselves – in school classes, with district residents or for their own Elbe Islands Radio and TV.

Learning by Doing

At production facilities, for example at the Stübenhofer Weg Educational Centre, products are created and services offered – the practical work facilitates learning. How does one prepare a healthy meal, for example? Pupils learn manual techniques with wood, metal and textile materials. Products and services are developed, produced and marketed by the pupils independently.

The Kirchdorf core group takes on the function of controlling the contents of the Elbe Islands Educational Offensive in Kirchdorf and Kirchdorf Süd. The core group is composed of representatives of different facilities from Kirchdorf and Kirchdorf Süd.

A new training centre for all generations -" The Gate to the World" - will also be set up in Kirchdorf during the coming years.

The "Gate to the World" connects, at one location, educational, advisory and
integration opportunities for adults with children day care centres and educational establishments.
Pupils, teachers, trainers, parents, partners outside school and district residents are actively involved in the development of pedagogical concepts and in the constructional design; for example, the central area is the result of a pupil-parent competition. The project operates through a network: the constructional design encourages close cooperation between the participants because it connects buildings and facilities with each other.
